The Atlanta Falcons suffered a setback by missing the playoffs with an underwhelming 7-9 record in the 2018 NFL season. Regardless, Matt Ryan still optimistic about a potential return to the Super Bowl.

Despite their disappointing 2018 campaign, expectations seem to be as high as ever in Atlanta.
According to ESPN's Vaugh McClure, Matt Ryan went so far as to set his sights on a Super Bowl this season:

“The group of guys that we have, we have a locker room of competitive, hardworking, unselfish people, and I think it’s the people in our building that give us a great chance to get back and obviously hopefully win a Super Bowl,” Ryan said.

“We’ve got a great coaching staff. We’ve got a combination of guys that are going to try and put the players that we have in the best position to be successful.”

It is encouraging to see that Ryan has high hopes for the Falcons. Although the prospect of making it back to the Super Bowl may seem premature at this point in the offseason, his optimism is certainly understandable. Despite coming up short of contention last year, the Falcons are just two seasons removed from their run to Super Bowl LI.

Of course, even Matt Ryan realizes that Atlanta must first find a way to win the NFC South. He noted how strong the division has proven to be in recent years. His comments seemed to indicate that the focus is on finding a way to beat the New Orleans Saints.

There is no question that any success the Falcons enjoy next season will be largely predicated on Ryan's performance. It will be interesting to see if the veteran is able to return to his MVP form in 2019.
