The Atlanta Falcons are facing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 2, so that can only mean that Matt Ryan is asked about the Falcons' Super Bowl LI collapse against Tom Brady and the New England Patriots.

When Ryan was in the midst of being asked about the Super Bowl debacle, he could only joke about it, via ESPN's Michael Rothstein:

“I haven't,” Ryan deadpanned. “I never heard of it.”

Ryan tried to get a bit more serious after the joke:

“Of course we want to win. It's not going to make up for that,” Ryan said. “You know, it's one of those things. It's part of your past, it's part of what happened.

“But it's got no bearing on this week.”

The Falcons quarterback is 0-5 against Tom Brady in his career. Ryan's squad had Super Bowl LI in the bag after going up 28-3, only to melt down in absolutely epic fashion. The result was a heartbreaking 28-3 defeat.

Ryan would love to be able to forget about that, especially with Brady now with the Buccaneers, but it's impossible. The Falcons have been the butt of jokes since that choke happened, and those aren't going to go away unless they win the Super Bowl. Even then … they still probably wouldn't go away.

Of course, Ryan winning a Super Bowl in Atlanta is a major long shot right now. There have been a ton of trade rumors involving the veteran quarterback, and the Falcons just got smashed by the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1. Facing Brady and the defending Super Bowl champion Buccaneers isn't ideal for Week 2.

It could be another long year in Atlanta.
