Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan believes that playing into his 40s is certainly a possibility due to the way that he prepares each season.

It hasn't been a great season for the Falcons in terms of finding success, with Ryan and company currently sitting at 5-9 on the year following the Week 15 win over the Arizona Cardinals.

The losses have overshadowed Ryan's impressive numbers, as he's thrown for 4,307 yards and 30 touchdowns while posting a 107.6 quarterback rating.

And with those types of numbers, it seems to be adding more confidence to Ryan when it comes to playing many more years in the league.

Here's what he had to say about possibly playing until age 40, courtesy of ESPN's Vaughn McClure:

“Yeah, I think so,” Ryan told ESPN. “I think, No. 1, I've got a long way to go until I get there. But if you can stay healthy, and you're still playing at a high level and all those things, I don't see why not.”

Ryan also expanded upon his training methods and how those also play a role in terms of longevity in such a physically demanding sport:

“Just in terms of training and in terms of recovery, whether it's massage or stretching,” Ryan said. “There's tons of different things that I do now that I didn't do earlier in my career that I think help keep you healthy further into you career. I think those are all variables that can help you play longer.”

Perhaps those things will help Ryan play many more years, and he'd like to see his efforts turn into more wins for the Falcons.

But then again, with all the injuries on both sides of the ball, this may just be one of those seasons where things never had a chance to fully blossom.

The Falcons will return to the field on Sunday to take on the Carolina Panthers.
