Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan surprised everyone by catching his first-ever receiving touchdown in the team's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Falcons finished 7-9 overall on the season with the thrilling 34-32 victory, and it was Ryan's receiving score that stood out as one of the most noteworthy plays of the game.

Calvin Ridley took a handoff before lateraling it to Mohamed Sanu, who went the ball downfield to Ryan for the touchdown.

Should we expect to see more of those types of plays from Ryan? Probably not.

From Falcons beat writer Will McFadden:

“My hands are pretty good; my route running is not very good. That’s probably the biggest thing” Ryan said. “I had to draw back on playing for the Downingtown Young Whippets in like third and fourth grade when I was playing tight end to go out there and make that catch.”

Despite the struggles from the Falcons this season, Ryan put together another good season under center. He threw for 4,546 yards and 33 touchdowns while throwing just six interceptions.

And, of course, he also added one receiving score to his impressive stat line.

Now, Atlanta will turn its attention to trying to get everyone healthy this offseason. Injuries took a big toll on the team this season, which certainly had a role in the inconsistencies throughout the year.

Ryan should continue to be in complete command of the offense, and with Julio Jones once again showing why he's one of the best playmakers in the league, the Falcons should be set up to rebound in 2019.
