The Atlanta Falcons are in the midst of a five-game losing streak heading into their matchup with the Seattle Seahawks in Week 8. They are still holding out hope that quarterback Matt Ryan will be able to play.

Ryan suffered an ankle injury during their Week 7 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Falcons head coach Dan Quinn says they are taking an optimistic approach to his status, via Gregg Bell of The News Tribune.

“Hopefully we will have a better sense as the week goes,” Quinn said. “You can never count him out, . . . He definitely thinks there’s an opportunity for him to be able to go.”

It is no secret that the Falcons have endured an abysmal start to the year. The prospect of Ryan having to miss any time would undoubtedly deal a significant blow to an offense that has already struggled to find its rhythm this season.

While it is easy to points towards Ryan's play under center as a problem, the utter lack of protection up front serves as the real culprit for their struggles. There is no shortage of firepower on offense, however, they are limited by what they can do behind a makeshift offensive line.

The Falcons may simply be playing for pride at this point in the season. Ryan playing at less than 100 percent for a one-win team midway through the season is certainly not ideal. Regardless, Quinn may feel as though he has no other choice than to roll with his hobbled starter.
