Running back Todd Gurley is a free agent for the first time in his NFL career. And right off the bat, defensive end Dante Fowler ā€” who recently inked a three-year, $48 million deal with the Atlanta Falcons ā€” has made an effort in recruiting his former teammate.

Vai Twitter, Fowler started luring Gurley in, even inserting the hashtag #DirtyBirdGang.

Apart from being teammates with the Los Angeles Rams for the last two seasons, the two were members of the 2015 NFL Draft class. Fowler was selected No. 3 overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars, while Gurley was the No. 10 overall pick to the Rams.

Gurley's release from the Rams came as a surprise. Since just two years ago, the 25-year-old was the highest-paid running back in the league on a four-year, $60 million extension with the team that included $45 million in guaranteed money.

In five seasons in Los Angeles, he logged in 1,265 carries for 5,404 yards and 71 touchdowns while hauling in 218 receptions on 301 targets for 2,090 yards and 12 touchdowns over 73 games.

Fowler, meanwhile, just logged in the best numbers of his career last season. In 16 games (14 starts), the 25-year-old talliedĀ 11.5 sacks, 58 tackles (16 for loss) and six passes defended.

The question now is, will Fowler be successful in his recruitment efforts? Will he be reunited with Gurley? Perhaps time can only tell. But the Falcons have been aggressive in the offseason thus far. Some of their moves include the release of running back Devonta Freeman and cornerback Desmond Trufant, as well as tight end Luke Stocker and tackle Ty Sambrailo. Meanwhile, they acquired tight end Hayden Hurst in a trade with the Baltimore Ravens.
