The Atlanta Falcons appear to determined to select Florida tight end Kyle Pitts with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft on Thursday.

Dianna Russini of ESPN reported the Falcons have fielded calls from “everyone” as they consider trading back. However, Russini added “there hasn't been an offer good enough to trade back.”

Atlanta will keep listening to offers for the pick, per Russini, but it is fully prepared to take Pitts in the event of staying put.

The Pitts-to-Atlanta hypothetical has been trending for some time now. It makes quite a bit of sense.

There are multiple considerations for the Falcons. Though the franchise could probably use a quarterback and eventual successor for Matt Ryan, it doesn't seem there is a ton of urgency after Atlanta extended Ryan earlier this offseason.

Perhaps the most important element in this whole equation is star wide receiver Julio Jones. Falcons general manager Terry Fontenot has said the team will continue to listen to offers for Jones as it navigates a difficult salary cap situation.

Pitts would be the ideal selection in the event Atlanta decides to trade Jones.

The Gators star is a tremendous weapon as a tight end who can line up all over the field and make game-breaking plays. Pitts averaged 17.9 yards per reception last season and had 12 touchdown catches. He also ran a 4.44 4-yard dash at his pro day.

Pitts might still be the ideal choice even if Jones remains in Atlanta. He would give Ryan and the Falcons a varied and explosive offense capable of putting up points in bunches.

It is still possible the Falcons trade back. But they are more than content with making Pitts the choice at No. 4 overall.
