The 2020 football regular season is currently well on its way into Week 3 and things have been pretty shaky thus far.

In Week 2 specifically, a slew of talented players on both sides of the line of scrimmage went down with very significant injuries, most of which have already been lost for the season.

With players like Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey and New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley most notably suffering serious leg injuries in Week 2, it was already slim pickings on the waiver wire for running backs as things have somehow gotten even thinner.

Even so, there are still more than a few talented rushers out there, though some need to start for fantasy football owners every week while others need to be played based on matchups. Week 3 will be no different as there are some clear options to absolutely start and other options that need to ride the pine this time around.

RBs to Start in Week 3

Nick Chubb, Cleveland Browns

After almost leading the entire league in rushing yards last season, Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb is once again off to a great start in 2020. With a favorable matchup against the Washington Football Team up next on the schedule for the Browns, Chubb should run wild in Week 3—even with fellow Cleveland running back Kareem Hunt in the fold.

While both Chubb and Hunt have been impressive early on this year, the former is clearly the top option in the backfield for the up-and-coming AFC North franchise. That shouldn't change against Washington, either, as fantasy football owners should expect more than 100 rushing yards and at least one touchdown for Chubb in Week 3.

Aaron Jones, Green Bay Packers

The Green Bay Packers are currently slated for a NFC clash against the always-dangerous New Orleans Saints in Week 3, which usually means that there will be a lot of offense as a result of this much-anticipated matchup. However, the Packers might be without superstar wide receiver Davante Adams, who continues to nurse a lingering hamstring injury.

Even though such a setback doesn't seem serious, the team may hold Adams out of the upcoming Week 3 matchup against the Saints as a precaution—which would only bode well for Green Bay's starting running back in Aaron Jones.

Jones is currently the league's leading rusher, thanks to a huge game in Week 2 against the rival Detroit Lions. With the Packers offense going run-heavy through the first two weeks of the 2020 regular season, fantasy football owners can expect the same in Week 3—especially if Adams isn't in the picture against the Saints.

Dalvin Cook, Minnesota Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings have not looked good through the first two weeks of the regular season as the struggling NFC North franchise is a winless 0-2 after losses to the Packers and Indianapolis Colts. However, Vikings running back Dalvin Cook has been a solid option for fantasy football owners as he is almost guaranteed to score a touchdown on a weekly basis while seeing his fair share of touches.

This week should be no different as the team's Week 3 opponent in the Tennessee Titans has allowed opposing running backs to perform in a big way thus far. The Titans saw Denver Broncos rushers Phillip Lindsay and Melvin Gordon do relatively well in Week 1 before allowing Jacksonville Jaguars running back James Robinson to go absolutely nuts this past week. It is worth noting that Robinson is an undrafted rookie free agent.

RBs to Sit in Week 3

Mark Ingram, Baltimore Ravens

In what quite possibly could become the game of the season, the Baltimore Ravens will square off against the Kansas City Chiefs on “Monday Night Football” in Week 3. While this will surely be an offensive battle, the Chiefs will potentially pull the Ravens into a back-and-forth affair that sees both teams slinging the rock all over the field.

While that would be great for the fans, such an outcome would be less than stellar for Ravens running back Mark Ingram, who is already sharing some time with rookie rusher J.K. Dobbins. If the Ravens need to claw their way back into the game as the Chiefs have been known to score some points early and often, Baltimore will need to rely much more on its passing game than rushing attack.

Mike Davis, Carolina Panthers

With Carolina Panthers starting running back Christian McCaffrey currently on injured reserve after suffering a significant leg injury in Week 2 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, it now time for fellow running back Mike Davis to take over in the interim.

However, this does not mean that the Panthers offense will click like it did with McCaffrey flanking quarterback Teddy Bridgewater in the backfield as there is quite frankly no player in the league that can do what McCaffrey does. The Panthers will struggle mightily until McCaffrey eventually returns as the team's looming matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers will not be a coming out party for the aforementioned Davis. Although the team's new starter at running back, Davis will not just magically put up McCaffrey-like numbers for fantasy football owners.

Devin Singletary, Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills are currently a perfect 2-0, though the undefeated AFC East franchise has beaten some very mediocre teams out of the gate. After defeating both the rival New York Jets and Miami Dolphins in Week 1 and Week 2, respectively, the Bills will now encounter the team's first true test of the season in Week 3 against the surging Los Angeles Rams, another 2-0 franchise.

Because the Rams possess a stout defense, with an offense that can score some points with the best of 'em, the Bills will certainly have their hands full this time around. In addition to a dangerous opponent, Bills running back Devin Singletary has also been sharing carries with rookie rusher Zack Moss pretty evenly through the first few weeks of the 2020 regular season. With this perfect storm swirling for Singletary in Week 3, it would be best for fantasy football owners to just avoid starting him if at all possible.
