The 2019 NFL campaign has not been kind to Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield thus far.

Through six games, Mayfield has been one of the worst signal-callers in the league, throwing for 1,496 yards, five touchdown and an NFL-worst 11 interceptions while completing just 56.6 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 66.

Mayfield has thrown a pick in every game thus far, and he has yet to have a week where he finishes with more touchdowns than interceptions.

Who will Mayfield have to face in Week 8? None other than the New England Patriots, who just pitched a shutout against the New York Jets and are allowing a mere 6.9 points per game.

Oh, and the Browns will be in Foxborough for this one.

You can imagine what is currently going through Mayfield's head, and if you are a fantasy owner with Mayfield on your team, I can only imagine what you are thinking.

There is still plenty of time for Mayfield to turn things around, but this is not the week that will happen.

The Patriots are allowing just 148.4 passing yards per game, and get this: opposing quarterbacks have posted a passer rating of 35.6 against them through their first seven games.

That is beyond insanity.

Mayfield thought the San Francisco 49ers' defense was tough? Wait until he faces New England, a team coached by Bill Belichick that will almost certainly have Cleveland's offense scrambling for solutions from the get-go.

Yes, the Browns are desperate. If they lose this game, they can probably kiss their season goodbye, as they would fall to 2-5 on the season, three games behind the Baltimore Ravens for first place in the AFC North.

But Cleveland was desperate last week as well and proceeded to blow a 20-6 lead in a 32-28 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

So, what should make us think that the Browns will come out firing out of the gate against the best team in the NFL, and on the road, no less?

Say what you want about Cleveland's weapons, whether it's Nick Chubb or Odell Beckham Jr. or Jarvis Landry, but they haven't gotten the Browns very far against the Titans, Rams, 49ers and Seahawks, so I don't see why they would suddenly rise to the occasion against the Pats.

To put it simply, Mayfield has been awful this season. In his defense, Cleveland's entire team has been terrible, whether it's the offensive line or the defense or the coaching, but Mayfield has been especially bad.

I had a feeling he would go through a bit of a sophomore slump this year for various reasons, but it was hard to see this coming.

During the second half of the year when the Browns' schedule softens, Mayfield will probably (hopefully, for Cleveland's sake) become a much more viable option in fantasy.

But this week? Against a Patriots defense that just made Sam Darnold register a 3.6 passer rating and one that has surrendered just one passing touchdown all season long? No, it's not happening.

Don't expect much of anything from Baker Mayfield on Sunday.
