It has taken San Diego Padres shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. less than two years to become one of the biggest stars in the sport.

Tatis is the cover athlete for MLB The Show 21, and he featured prominently in the latest next-gen reveal trailer. Or, a puppet of Tatis featured prominently.

Sony San Diego released a trailer showcasing Tatis and the puppet character “Coach,”  a staple of the franchise's marketing strategy in recent years. The duo revealed some of the game's features, including 3D audio and a stadium creator.

The franchise has, for years, exclusively been available on PlayStation. However, Sony San Diego Product Development Communications and Brand Strategist Ramone Russell announced last month The Show 21 would be available on Xbox, with the opportunity for cross-platform play (via Xbox):

That’s right, with The Show live on multiple platforms, users will be able to play against each other online with cross-platform play in MLB The Show 21. In addition, cross-progression allows you to earn and use content on whichever platform and generation you choose.

Xbox users can rejoice in finally having the chance to own the latest installation of the popular baseball franchise. Fernando Tatis Jr., meanwhile, continues to revel in his superstardom.

The 22-year-old formally signed a 14-year, $340 million extension with the Padres in February, officially becoming the franchise player in San Diego. Aside from his partnership with The Show, Tatis also has marketing deals with Gatorade's BOLT24.

Friars fans will hope Fernando Tatis Jr. continues to display his ability on the diamond. Gamers on next-gen platforms will have the chance to go deep with the virtual version of Tatis in April.
