In a recent interview with Famitsu, former Square Enix director Hajime Tabata confirmed that his studio, JP Games is working on two new large-scale projects. He also stated that JP Games was working alongside another big company on both games.

Hajime Tabata is most well-known as the director of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy Type-0, and Final Fantasy XV. He became COO of new Square Enix studio Luminous Productions in March 2018. He later departed the company in October of the same year. In January 2019, he announced that he was founding his own studio – JP Games.

He didn't give too many details about either of the two new games they were working on. He simply described them as evolutions of two previous directorial projects.

One of them has already finished pre-production. Hajime Tabata describes it as an evolved version of Final Fantasy Type-0 and “a high-speed RPG”. This game also aims to reduce the amount of playtime needed to clear an RPG. It was also mentioned to have multiplayer elements.

The second project, confirmed to be a triple-A title, has just started pre-production. He cited Final Fantasy XV as an influence for this title, emphasizing its exploration. It was also described as a “nomadic RPG” which might suggest an ancient historical setting. He states that this game also aims to incorporate free wandering mechanics.

This news follows shortly after the release of Hajime Tabata's first game after his departure at Square Enix – Pegasus Dream Tour. Endorsed by the International Paralympics Committe, Pegasus Dream Tour released on June 24, 2021 for mobile devices. He notes that the game had changed a lot compared to their original plans due to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent delay of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
