In the most recent Final Fantasy XIV Liveletter, Final Fantasy XVI producer Naoki Yoshida revealed some details about the upcoming game. The biggest of which is that FFXVI‘s main scenario has been finished.

Additionally, the English voiceover work for the game has almost concluded recording. Unfortunately, Yoshida has also stated that it is likely the game will miss out on Tokyo Game Show (TGS) 2021. He also said, “I don't like throwing out bits to string people along with small updates, so I want to show it when it's ready.” TGS is set to occur between September 3 to October 3 this year.

This information comes from translations via the FFXIV subreddit's discord and from twitter.

Currently, the game's official website sports only the PS5 logo. That might mean the game will launch as a PS5 console exclusive. There's no word yet on any theoretical release window. The website also contains the game's Awakening trailer.

Valisthea is the name of FFXVI‘s world. It is “A Land Blessed in the Light of the Mothercrystals”. It seems like the game will be the first single-player Final Fantasy to feature a high-fantasy setting since 2006's Final Fantasy XII. Valisthea is home to various factions that each have their own cultures and histories – all tied to their Mothercrystals.
