Six-time NBA champion Michael Jordan made a ton of money from endorsements back in his heyday. Now the tables have turned, as one of Jordan's previous benefactors is looking to cash in on some items gifted by MJ himself.

The Chicago Tribune's Shannon Ryan (via The Sun Herald) recently had a chat with Bill Schmidt, a former vice president for marketing from Gatorade who was one of the creative forces behind Jordan's “Be Like Mike” ad campaign for the world-renowned brand of sports-themed beverages. Schmidt told Ryan that several memorabilia personally given to him by the Chicago Bulls great have been stored in his attic for so long that he's finally decided to auction them off.

Some of the items, via The Sun Herald:

  • Nike Air Jordan game-used autograph size 13 sneakers from the 1992-93 season. (Bidding as of Tuesday morning was at $2,860.)
  • Game-worn baseball cleats signed by Jordan ($6,134).
  • Game-worn shorts from 1992-92 season ($750).
  • No. 45 signed Bulls jersey ($733).
  • Game-used autographed jersey from Jordan's first championship season in 1990-91 ($5,363).
  • A signed seat cover from Jordan's on-court chair from the 1992 season ($807).

Ryan stated that there are nearly 50 items up for bid from Schmidt's collection over at Steiner Auctions titled “Rare Air Artifacts.” The entire collection is quite a find indeed, with authentically autographed items such as game-worn baseball cleats and a used jersey from Jordan's first championship-winning season in Chicago each going up for grabs for about $5,000.

Jordan's devoted fans must act quick if they want a piece of His Airness' history, as the auction closes in two weeks' time on July 29. Obviously, these gems also come with hefty price tags, so interested buyers best prepare to eat nothing but buttered noodles for the next few weeks.
