Disgraced ex-Louisville Cardinals basketball head coach Rick Pitino isn’t going down without a fight – or at least without being an annoying figure hellbent on squeezing out whatever dignity is left inside of him. In a direct path to weird logic in an attempt to avoid accountability, Rick Pitino is claiming Adidas did things under his nose.

Still clinging to his claim of ignorance, Pitino launched another attempt at deflecting blame for dragging Louisville to an ugly recruitment and fraud scandal currently investigated by the FBI. And he’s doing it by suing Adidas and Adidas North America, according to Kate Taylor or Business Insider.

Pitino is accusing the sports apparel company of playing a big part in his demise as coach of the Cardinals program while also claiming complete innocence of any illegal activities Adidas made in relation to the scandal.

In the lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in Louisville by Pitino attorneys Steve Pence and Mike Valenti, the ex-coach alleges Adidas’ actions were done without his “knowledge, participation, or acquiescence.”

Pitino was fired on Monday by Louisville after an FBI probe linked the now ex-coach to a bribery scheme involving Adidas and Cardinals recruits. One particular recruit’s family, alleged to be that of Brian Bowen’s, was reported to have received $100,000 in exchange for the player’s commitment to play for Louisville. Bowen is currently suspended and has hired a lawyer to help him become eligible to play.

Pitino is also seeking financial compensation according to a report from wdrb.com, though his complaint also read “This lawsuit is about more than just money.”

Pitino is unemployed as of the moment, but this lawsuit should keep him busy.
