Former New England Patriots cornerback Brandon Browner went ballistic on social media because of what he believes was unfair treatment by the Pats of cornerback Malcolm Butler during Sunday’s Super Bowl LII.

Butler was benched by the Patriots in the game, failing to appear in at least a single defensive snap against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Browner took to his Instagram account and castigated the Patriots, head coach Bill Belichick in particular, for the head-scratching decision to bury Malcolm Butler in the bench.

Man, Bill wasn’t right at all tonight, man. I ain’t know how to feel watching that shit without my man, without my homie, without Malcolm. I didn’t know whether to cheer for they ass. Feel me … That dude has started every game for that team. Feel me. Since he picked the fucking ball off and he was taking on their number one dude at that. That shit was some power trip shit, feel me? Like to prove a point. They felt like they had the quarterback to do it with. We don’t need you as a cornerback. Man, you play every game of the season but the Super Bowl. I can’t rock with that. That was a bullshit-ass call. That was a bullshit-ass decision. That was a power trip. You divide the locker room when you do that. Motherfuckers find out [when] a nigga ain’t playing before the game. You divide the locker room. Cats says they rocking with Malcolm and cats say they rocking with the coach’s decision. Congratulations to the eagles, but that shit was weak. They deserve that for not playing him.

Brandon Browner played for only one season for the Patriots (2014), appearing in nine games for Belichick’s team and recording 20 total tackles and an interception during his time in Foxborough. He was also a part of the Patriots team that won Super Bowl XLIX against the Seattle Seahawks, the same game in which Malcolm Butler became a New England folk hero. Butler jumped a route late in the contest to intercept Russell Wilson’s pass attempt in the end zone, and preserve the victory for New England.

Browner put Belichick’s name on blast, saying that the head coach divided the locker room way before the game even started.

Butler is set to be a free agent this year, and if his benching in the Super Bowl was any indication, it’s likely that he will not suit up for the Patriots next season.
