Just hours after speaking on the direction of the Philadelphia 76ers next year, general manager Sam Hinkie stepped down from his duties with the franchise. His rocky relationship with their new chairman of basketball operations and longtime NBA executive Jerry Colangelo was cited as a primary reason for the move.

Well, it's even worse than we originally thought.

The drama continued when Hinkie's bizarre, 13-page resignation letter was leaked online within minutes of his decision to part ways with the Sixers coming out. Hinkie believes he knows the guilty party.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, Hinkie suspects that Colangelo leaked the private statement as a final punch to the gut. Since Colangelo was hired in January, Wojnarowski reports that he's been undermining Hinkie and his roll with the franchise.

Given their past and Wojnarowski's article on their relationship, or lack thereof, it wouldn't be surprising if Colangelo was indeed responsible for this egregious act.

While lobbying for Hinkie's departure, Colangelo also talked up his son, Bryan, who is now reportedly set to become the team's new general manager. Jerry didn't believe that Hinkie required “people skills” necessary for him to perform his job.

All this does is make the Sixers look more dysfunctional than before. Politics in the front office rarely translate to growth and long term success, and leaking a private letter to the public like that is childish. Even if it wasn't Colangelo, only 13 executives received the document; one of them has to be the culprit.
