Alpine's Fernando Alonso gets brutally honest on helping Formula 1 title contender Max Verstappen beat his rival,  Lewis Hamilton.

Red Bull's Verstappen currently has a slim lead of six points over Mercedes' Hamilton with just six races to go. This year's battle between the two can be considered one of the most intense rivalries in the sport.

However, Hamilton has had his own rivalry with two-time F1 champion Fernando Alonso during their stint as teammates with McLaren. The recent Hungarian Grand Prix witnessed a flashback of this rivalry as Hamilton and Alonso had an intense back-and-forth throughout the race.

Red Bull's advisor, Helmut Marko, stressed that the Hungarian GP was an example of the Spaniard's feelings toward the seven-time world champion.

“We know Alonso is not a big Hamilton fan, which we saw in Budapest,”

Meanwhile, Alonso downplays that statement, explaining that he is only worried about his performance this season, which does not equate to the Spaniard's efforts to aid Verstappen in his battle with Hamilton.

“I read that, but I always run my own race,” the Spanish racer said.

The former F1 world champion cited examples of how Mercedes and Red Bull are way ahead when it comes to car performance and capability.

“In Hungary, yes, we managed to fight Hamilton. But that was mainly due to the track. Mercedes and Red Bull are normally much too fast. Look at Monza, when Bottas started last and still finished on the podium.”

With the extremely close margin of Verstappen and Hamilton, fans are expecting one of the most exciting finishes in F1 history.
