Fans in attendance at the recent FIA Awards ceremony showed love for Lewis Hamilton right in front of his ultimate Formula 1 rival Max Verstappen.

After copping his first Formula 1 title in Abu Dhabi, Red Bull Racing star Max Verstappen attended the FIA Awards ceremony in Paris on Thursday to receive his prized possession.

During the event, the FIA also awarded Japanese karting world championship driver Kean Nakamura.

Everything seemed normal until Nakamura made his acceptance speech. The youngster appeared to have caused a bit of awkwardness in the stage after snubbing Verstappen as he names that drivers that inspired him, hailing only Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel.

“I grew up watching Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel racing together,” Nakamura said via Give Me Sport. “I’ve always looked up to all the top racers in F1 really.”

Adding more flavor into it, the fans did a wild round of applause after hearing Hamilton's name.

Back on the track, Verstappen is looking forward to clashing with Hamilton once again next season despite the seven-time Formula 1 world champion hinting that he's unsure about what lies ahead of him.

“I can understand that the first few days after a race like that, you’re not happy,” Verstappen said of Hamilton's loss. “But you should also understand, like I said before, that this is racing at the end of the day, and these things can happen to you.”

“And I think he should just look back at what he has achieved already,” he continued. “That should give him a lot of comfort and should also be that drive to just keep on going, because he is still trying to challenge for that eighth title. And, for sure, he can do that again next year. So I don’t see any reason why to give up or stop now.”
