Lewis Hamilton says that he'll work even harder in next year's Formula 1 season to deny George Russell from claiming wins throughout the year.

After George Russell was announced as the Mercedes replacement for Valtteri Bottas in the upcoming F1 2022 season, fans across the community have been excited to see if the promising Englishman could take the battle to Hamilton in the same machinery.

Russell has shown his exceptional talent this season by scoring 16 points, including a second-place finish at the Belgian Grand Prix. To be able to garner that many points in a Williams — which has been a backmarker car for the last several years — is truly a spectacular feat that he can be proud of.

Not every driver is granted the opportunity to drive for Mercedes, and Hamilton is well aware of the challenge that Russell will bring to the table — especially if Mercedes have another championship-contending car. This will not only push Hamilton to new heights but even the entire Mercedes team.

Via Finley Creborder of Planet F1:

“There is respect there, but I know he is going to win races, I know he is going to be fast, I’m sure if we have got the package he will do a great job and there will be times where he is at the front and I’m okay with that. I’ll just work harder to make sure that it doesn’t happen.”

George Russell is much younger than the 7-time world champion — which only means he will be hungry as ever to take down one of the greatest drivers the sport has seen. There is no doubt that Formula 1 fans around the world will have their eyes peeled for the 2022 season.
