Max Verstappen, take a bow! The Formula 1 world is absolutely buzzing after the Red Bull driver stunned Mercedes star driver Lewis Hamilton during the French Grand Prix.

The seven-time world champion isn't used to being the one getting overtaken for the win, but Hamilton maintained his poise and gave Verstappen his well-deserved props.

Via Luke Laughlin from The Guardian's Formula 1 coverage:

“Congrats to Max, he did a great job today … they just had the better power, er, strength, all weekend. I just think considering we had such a difficult Friday, I’m really happy with today’s result, of course we didn’t win, and we were in the lead, but I had no tyres left at the end … still, it was a good race.

The Red Bull driver extended his lead in the Formula 1 driver standings with this impressive overtake during the race's penultimate lap that caught Lewis Hamilton completely off guard:

Verstappen had a rocky start after going off track in turn two, which surrendered the lead to Hamilton. But he was able to return the favor when it mattered most. The Red Bull driver spoke out about the intense victory:

“I enjoyed it at the end, yes,” said Verstappen of the win that strengthened his spot atop the F1 standings. “At the beginning, it was super difficult out there with the wind … it was difficult to keep the car stable … when we made the call to do a two-stop, luckily in the end that paid off. But we had to work hard for it, but yes, of course, very rewarding.

Max Verstappen now stands at 131 points, building a larger gap between him and Formula 1's longtime champion in Lewis Hamilton. The Mercedes driver ranks second with 119 points. The gap in the constructor standings has also widened, with Red Bull now ahead with 215 points versus Mercedes' 178.
