After watching his son Lewis Hamilton narrowly miss out on his eighth Formula 1 World Championship, Anthony Hamilton was seen congratulating winner Max Verstappen. The final race of the season went down to the wire, and Anthony Hamilton's gesture was a classy one.

After leading for majority of the race, Lewis Hamilton lost both the race and the championship in the last lap of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Max Verstappen, who started the race on pole, managed to pull off an overtake on his rival following a controversial last few laps.

Anthony Hamilton first went to console his son who would have been the most affected by his own loss. After winning the championship seven times, Lewis Hamilton was one lap away from a record eighth Formula 1 title. However, after consoling his son, Anthony Hamilton shared a handshake with Max Verstappen and his father Jos Verstappen.

This comes a few days after Jos Verstappen's controversial comments on Lewis Hamilton made the news. Jos, a former Formula 1 driver himself, claimed Hamilton is not as friendly as other drivers. He further added that he is in his own word (via Planet F1):

ā€œI never speak to Lewis. He doesnā€™t need to speak to me. Iā€™m nothing to him. I respect him as a driver, but the restā€¦nothing,ā€ he told the Daily Mail.

These comments from Jos highlight all the more how classy Anthony Hamilton's gesture to Max Verstappen and his father was. Following a tense past few weeks between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen, it is heartwarming to see the mutual respect shared between them and their fathers.
