AlphaTauri driver Yuki Tsunoda says that his consistent drive at the U.S. Grand Prix was his best performance in Formula 1 so far.

Tsunoda has been dealing with inconsistency, numerous on-track mistakes, and even communication. The Japanese driver is notorious for swearing excessively to his F1 mechanics over the team radio—though he previously revealed that he has taken steps to reduce his vulgarity.

Tsunoda finally had a decent weekend at the US GP after qualifying 10th, and finishing 9th at the end of the race behind top teams Red Bull, Mercedes, Ferrari, and McLaren. This was his first finish inside the top 10 since his finishing 6th place at the Hungarian GP.  He notes that he improved a lot on his consistency all weekend and improved on past mistakes thus far.

Via Adam Cooper of Motorsport:

“It was a good step,” he said. “Long time no points, and I think from especially Turkey I had a quite good progress, and in the end in Turkey I had a big mistake, but I improved those things and brought the car back at home. I was quite consistent, and also I think the best race I did in the season so far, even with this difficult situation.”

He reiterated that he'd normally lose positions after the first lap, but this time, he gained a couple of positions. AlphaTauri will hope Tsunoda can keep building on his newly-found confidence heading into the final stages of the Formula 1 season.
