Despite still being under contract with the Chicago Bulls, Fred Hoiberg is reportedly being eyed to replace Thad Matta as the next head coach at Ohio State.

After only announcing Matta’s resignation last Monday, the Buckeyes are wasting no time in looking his successor and are going to the NBA route to try and bring in more success to their program in the coming years.

Before taking on his current role with the Bulls, Hoiberg was calling the plays at Iowa State, where he was the coach for five years. He was able to lead them to four straight NCAA Tournament appearances, and even reaching the Sweet Sixteen in 2014. His experience is something that the school wants to add, especially with their team going through a rough patch with no Buckeye being included in the top 50 draft prospects the past two seasons.

Should they be able to lure Hoiberg to their fold, it will be a huge boost to the Buckeyes and could also help bring in more talented players from high school, given his stature and ability to recruit top prospects. However, it will all depend on his willingness to give up an NBA head coaching job, and what plans the Bulls’ top brass have for him.
