Survival City-Builder Frostpunk announced its sequel, Frostpunk 2 just last week. Official channels reported that the game was still relatively early in development, and hasn't even shown any gameplay. It also doesn't have a release date yet. However, online retailer Kinguin is somehow offering “preorder Steam CD keys” for sale. This has led to strong pushback from Frostpunk 2 developer, 11 Bit Studios:

Additionally, in a follow-up tweet, they said:

“As a further addition to our announcement about scammers – they have PEGI rating while we do not know it yet (!) and they embedded our trailer from Epic Games Store while “selling Steam keys” on pre-order. Sorry, but this is ridiculous.”

The following day, they also thanked the media for covering the scam. They also thanked their community for the support they have shown so far. They also said that: “Fake pre-order is still there: we don't have anything from it and we can't guarantee you'll get the game there.” Note that the official trailer stated that the official platforms for Frostpunk 2 will be Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG.

As for Kinguin, they are a “key reseller” that operates in a sort of gray market. It's a digital marketplace where anyone can sell game keys, and is prone to be used for unscrupulous behavior. In a statement to PC Gamer, 11 Bit Studios said:

“We used bitter words but not without a reason; technically speaking, they are selling something that doesn't exist. We have access to the game at its current state for internal testing, of course, but we're not generating keys that could be sold, redeemed, and give players access to the game.”
