G2 Esports filed a lawsuit against their non-fungible token (NFT) partner Bondly. The cause of this lawsuit is that the NFT provider misled G2 to creating several NFT drops for G2 Esports, after partnering last June 2021. G2 Esports announced to have a first NFT last June 30, 2021 however Bondly has yet to provide their service to their partner.

From the report of Mikhail Klimentov from Washington Post, G2 Esports management filed a lawsuit in the LA County Superior Court, seeking $5.25 million in damages from their supposed partner. The esports organization claims it and Bondly agreed to a two-year partnership with each other. The partnership entails that Bondly would have access to G2’s intellectual property. In return, a series of G2-centric NFTs and millions of annual rights fees and guarantee advances in monetary compensation will be provided for G2.

The esports company alleges the NFT developer had already informed G2 shortly after sending the first rights fee invoice. However, Bondly could not keep up its end of the deal from their partnership. G2 also claims that Bondly even attempted to pause and subsequently terminate its agreement with G2. A representative from Bondly said that the company was already  “past the point of being able to successfully deliver an NFT program”. They have proposed solutions to the ongoing partnership however G2 refused on the proposals leading the esports organization to allegedly push back in both instances.

As stated in G2's filing, the NFT developer “knew that their representations were false when they made them, or made the representations recklessly and without regard to their truth.” “Bondly already knew of their incapacity to perform yet they cunningly waited until G2 had publicly announced its partnership with Bondly to its millions of fans to reap the benefits of publicity through the highly valuable G2 brand.”

Bondly claims on its website that the company “[executes] every step of the process to bring authenticated digital-first goods to the market in music, entertainment, gaming and collectibles with a suite of products and services designed to support the entire blockchain ecosystem.” They have already worked with the likes of singer Lewis Capaldi and internet personality Logan Paul to create NFTs for them.

G2 CEO Carlos Rodríguez said on Twitter that “it’s easy to hate on NFTs due to previous catastrophic cash grab attempts from weasels,” but that G2 was “doing this for the right reasons and will be around for decades to come.” He stated this on his personal account after partnering with the accused NFT developer Bondly.
