It wasn’t long ago when Gary Trent Jr. was scorching opposing squads in the Bubble for the Portland Trail Blazers. During his stint in Orlando, Trent averaged 13.6 points in 32.9 minutes per game. The shooting guard also connected  46.5% of his shots from the field and 47.9% from the arc, making his shot selection more efficient than ever.

Of course, not all good things are meant to last forever. The Trail Blazers were eliminated by the Los Angeles Lakers during the first round last postseason, ending Trent’s sizzling performance in Orlando on a low note. This season, though, marks a great change in the shooting guard’s career as he was sent to the Toronto Raptors before the trade deadline.

Trent’s surprising run in Orlando, coupled with his new stint in Toronto, has placed him again in the crosshairs of card enthusiasts, especially during his wonderful performance against the Cleveland Cavaliers last week. We take a look below whether Trent’s resurgence with the Raptors has made a good impact on his rookie cards or not.

Trent’s sensational 44-point game against the Cleveland Cavaliers

Before the trade deadline, Trent played 41 games for Portland and even started in 23 of them. During that time, 6’5” guard averaged 15 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in 30.8 minutes on the court. He also shot 41% from two, 40% from three, and 77% from the free-throw line.

After being traded to Toronto, Trent’s numbers went up with 18.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.6 assists as a starter for the Raptors. His efficiency also went up with 47% from the field, 41% from the perimeter, and 86% from the charity stripe.

Trent’s improvement was on full display last weekend when the Raptors faced the Cavs. In that game, Trent notched 44 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and a single steal. He was also incredibly efficient on the court by hitting 89% from the field and 78% from beyond the arc in 32 minutes of playtime. Thanks to his insane offensive performance, Toronto got away with a 135-115 win against Cleveland.

The state of Gary Trent Jr. rookie cards in the market

Trent’s presence in the card market wasn’t big enough to warrant sufficient demand from collectors. Just last February, his PSA 10 Prizm rookie card sold for $118. It even went down to $90 a few days after he was traded to the Raptors.

Since then, Trent has balled out in the 10 games he played for Toronto, including his recent 44-point masterpiece against the Cavs. As a result, his PSA 10 Prizm rookie card shot up to $150 yesterday.

The Raptors’ downward spiral during this season is the perfect opportunity for Trent to show what he does best — score. If he continues to ball out, card fans will take notice and drive demand for his rookie cards up. This is a great time to cash in on your Gary Trent Jr. rookie cards because they will eventually go down once the postseason starts without Toronto in it. Watch out for Trent’s upcoming games so you’ll have a good idea of when to sell soon.
