Florida Gators redshirt junior QB Emory Jones is reportedly planning to leave the program at the conclusion of the season, according to Yahoo's Pete Thamel. Jones will enter the transfer portal after a rocky season as the Gators' starting quarterback, marking one of many changes headed to the program.

Jones will have two years of eligibility remaining for whatever program he ends up joining, though that is a decision he won't make for a while considering he's yet to officially even enter the portal. Thamel reports that, despite his intentions to depart the program, Jones plans on playing in the Gators' Dec. 23 bowl game against UCF.

This season Jones started 11 games for Florida, throwing 19 touchdown passes and 13 interceptions while completing 67.6% of his pass attempts for 2,562 yards. He rushed 133 times for 696 yards and four rushing touchdowns.

The Gators endured a disappointing season in 2021 with Jones under center. Despite lofty expectations, the Gators finished the season 6-6, with a miserable 2-6 record in SEC play. Their struggles resulted in head coach Dan Mullen getting fired towards the end of the season, and now it looks as if Jones is the next key figure to be heading for the exit door.

Jones was a four-star recruit out of Franklin, Ga. He was ranked as the No. 85 player in the Class of 2018, and the No. 5 dual-threat quarterback. Jones committed to Florida back in 2017 amid interest from other marquee programs such as Ohio State, Alabama, and Florida State. After three years in Gainesville, Jones' time with the Gators is coming to a close, and will be capped off with the team's bowl game against UCF in just over a week's time.
