After nearly 8 years, we’re finally getting a Tales from the Borderlands sequel. This time around Gearbox will be developing the game instead of Telltale Games.

Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford revealed at PAX East they are developing a new Tales from the Borderlands game. Pitchford added, “Because of the success and our love for Tales, and because of our interest in developing the Borderlands universe in new ways, we thought it would be fun and exciting to dive into the format of interactive fiction once again.” This time around, the adventures in the upcoming game will revolve around a new set of characters. Aside from Pitchford’s announcement, 2K Games also made it official on Twitter

It will be very interesting to see how Gearbox will pull off a Tales from the Borderlands game. The first Tales from the Borderlands game came out way back in 2014, but then it was handled by the narrative-driven adventure experts Telltale Games. In fact, they were even the ones who created the character designs and wrote the whole script. Despite Gearbox being out of the picture, Telltale pulled off a great game that never compromised the Borderlands identity. Gearbox may own the IP, but would they be able to follow up on the success of the spin-off game that they didn't originally make?

Apart from the development reveal, Gearbox hasn't revealed much about the new game yet. We don't know yet if there are going to be any new gameplay mechanics introduced in the new game. Tales from the Borderlands will finally become a franchise, and we hope that it will be followed by even more sequels.
