Gegard Mousasi had a very famous split with the UFC a few years ago before joining Bellator. He became a free agent and many were excited to see where his career would take him and if he would finally fight for the title.

Spoiler alert. Gegard Mousasi wouldn't fight for the UFC title and he would very quickly become champion in Bellator. There was one particular situation that led to him making his decision easily.

Gegard Mousasi spoke with Shakiel Mahjouri of CBS Sports where he spoke about the UFC wanting him to fight Luke Rockhold. It didn't seem like a bad idea until he found out Jacare Souza was involved in the situation.

“I think that was the fight that they wanted to make, but I knew what Jacare [Souza] was offered because he was offered at the same night,” Mousasi revealed. “They offered me much, much lower than Jacare. I said, ‘I’m not going to sign that shit.’ They low-balled me. On my first contract also, because I was coming off Strikeforce, okay I wasn’t doing very well in UFC, they said, ‘You sign it or you leave.’ No negotiations. You sign or you leave. UFC can be hard in negotiations. People think it’s all kisses and hugs. Believe me, they can be brutal. If they need you, Dana White will call you… If they don’t need you, you’re going to find out on Sherdog that you’ve been released.”

There is a limited amount of fights left for Gegard Mousasi as he plans to retire after finishing his deal with Bellator. He will never have to deal with the UFC again.
