The news broke last week of Geoff Neal getting arrested on Thanksgiving only two weeks before the fight at UFC 269. The welterweight had only done one interview since then and that was with ClutchPoints to talk about the upcoming fight.

ESPN had reported that Geoff Neal would be staying on the UFC 269 card and that the promotion was aware of the ongoing situation. The fight is expected to be a very exciting one so many were happy to hear the fight would still go on.

Geoff Neal surprisingly addressed the subject at the latest UFC 269 media day. He explained what happened and why it was blown out of proportion.

“I haven’t been charged with any crime yet,” Neil told the media via MMAFighting. “They had probable cause and instead of doing the breathalyzer, I chose to do the blood [test]. I’m waiting on the results to get back and we’ll go from there.”

“It was just a one night thing. I decided to kick back and relax with my girlfriend, had a few drinks,” Neal said. “And then there was a situation that happened. Cops got involved. I did have my weapon on me, my weapon is legal. It’s licensed in my name. They made it look like I had a MAC-10 in my lap driving around drunk or something.

“It’s not as serious as they make it out to be. It’s not like I was drunk off my ass, hungover ..It was a onetime thing.”

Geoff Neal is expected to take on Santiago Ponzinibbio at UFC 269 on Saturday. The bout is a very exciting one taking place in the welterweight division.
