Cleveland Cavaliers rookie point guard Collin Sexton has two things working in his favor this season. The first is he's going to be getting a lot of minutes, which is big since experience is the best teacher for young guys. You often hear older players say being able to play through mistakes and learn from them is a reason they were able to become elite players, and Sexton will have the opportunity in Cleveland.

The other positive for Sexton is he will have George Hill as a mentor figure all season. Hill, a 10-year veteran, will be tasked to groom Sexton into what the Cavs are hoping is a future star at the point guard position.

After the Cavs' first practice of the season Tuesday, Hill told reporters he wants Sexton to be aggressive all season long.

“I always felt like the best thing to do is learn by throwing in the fire, learn by when you're out there playing,” Hill said, via Cleveland.com. “Like I told him, ‘You're going to make mistakes, make them being aggressive. No one's perfect and you're not going to be perfect. Just play your game, you're young, you're a rookie, you're learning and they're putting you in this position for a reason.' “

Hill, 32, is due $19 million in 2018-19, but has just $1 million guaranteed in 2019-20. His name was mentioned in some trade rumors this summer, but it appears the Cavs weren't able to find a trade suitor for him.

Cleveland acquired Hill at the 2018 February trade deadline from the Sacramento Kings. In the 24 regular season games he appeared in with the Cavs last season, Hill averaged 9.4 points and 2.8 assists while shooting 44.4 percent from the field and 35.1 percent from 3.

Collin Sexton had a great summer league, showing why the Cavs' front office was high on him. The 6-foot-3 guard got to the basket at will, both in transition and the half court, and finished heavy traffic. Now that LeBron James is no longer on the team, the Cavs are going to struggle at times to put up points, especially in the half court sets. Having Sexton gives Cleveland at least one player on the roster who can break defenses down and collapse the paint.
