The New York Giants signed safety Antoine Bethea to a two-year deal on Thursday, hoping he will fill the void of the departed Landon Collins, who inked a deal with the Washington Redskins earlier in the week.

However, Bethea understands that Giants fans are still smarting over the fact that they lost Collins, who is one of the best defensive backs in the league.

“They should be upset,’’ Bethea said, according to Paul Schwartz of The New York Post. “Landon is one of the best safeties in the league. He’s a three-time Pro Bowler and played well for the Giants. He’s very confident in his play. I’m very confident in my play as well.’’

That being said, Bethea thinks he can still help New York even at the age of 34.

“Obviously, having some longevity in this league is something a lot of people can’t say, and I hold that close to my heart,’’ Bethea said. “I still feel good. If I didn’t feel good, I wouldn’t put myself in a situation to go out there and put bad film out there. I still believe in my play, I still believe in myself, I still believe I can go out there and play at a high level. So, that’s what I expect to do, that’s what I expect out of myself.’’

Bethea, a two-time Pro Bowler, spent the 2018 campaign with the Arizona Cardinals, finishing with 121 tackles, three sacks, and a forced fumble.

The Giants are coming off of a season in which they won just five games.
