Former New York Giants head coach Ben McAdoo didn’t have very good starting offensive tackles at his disposal last season. And apparently, McAdoo thinks the Giants still don’t have anyone who’s much good at those positions, as Paul Schwartz of the New York Post notes.

While McAdoo thinks Nate Solder’s addition will help, he doesn’t think too highly of the left tackle, whom the Giants made the highest-paid offensive lineman in the league.

“Getting a left tackle in there will help them in a lot of ways,” McAdoo said of Solder. “I don’t think he’s a very good player, but I think it will help them in a lot of ways where they needed help in that room in the past and they haven’t had anyone to do that.

Solder was brought in to replace former top-10 pick Ereck Flowers on Eli Manning’s blindside. McAdoo was even more critical of his former left tackle and doesn’t see Flowers’ move to right tackle this season helping the fact that he’s just not very good.

“He can’t bend, you got to be able to bend,” McAdoo said. “You can run around him on that side just like you can on the other side, Eli just gets to see it, which may help Eli. It’s not the blind side, it’s in his vision, so if he’s comfortable with what’s going on over on the left side, it can help him move in the pocket a little bit better.”

Apparently, McAdoo doesn’t see the fact that the Giants have two starting tackles who aren’t very good as a hindrance for them going on to win the division this season. Still, Eli will likely be hoping for better protection from his two tackles to help keep him upright this season.
