San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey will head into retirement with one more accolade to his name. Posey won the Silver Slugger Award for the 2021 season, the fifth of his career. Only Barry Bonds, who won the award nine times, has more in a Giants uniform.

Posey won four Silver Slugger awards in six years, the last one coming in 2017. His numbers slipped following that season, which suggested that the catcher had seen his last days as a truly elite hitter.

At age 34, the Giant's catcher proved his doubters wrong. Posey posted a 140 OPS+, the highest he had posted since 2014. He recorded a slash line of .304/.390/.499 and hit 18 home runs and tallied 56 runs batted in. His 120 hits were the third-most amongst all MLB catchers despite playing just 113 games. Only Salvador Perez of the Kansas City Royals, the AL Silver Slugger winner, and J.T. Realmuto of the Philadelphia Phillies had more.

Posey's 41 extra-base hits tied for fifth-most among major league catchers. The Giants' All-Star posted a .644 walk-to-strikeout ratio, which ranked only behind the Chicago White Sox's Yasmani Grandal for the most among major league catchers with over 200 plate appearances.

Posey ended his career as one of the most valuable players on a San Francisco team with the most wins in the major leagues. The 2012 MVP and three-time champion is just about guaranteed to be selected to the Hall of Fame.
