Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes came to Daniel Jones' defense Thursday night, after the New York Giants QB stumbled and fell before reaching the end zone.

Taking the ball on a designed run play, Daniel Jones blew through the Eagles' defensive line, breaking away for a 80-yard run that seemed poised to end in a score before Jones, clearly heaving and out of breath, went to the turf, in a moment that seems destined to be turned into a meme.

Though Daniel Jones is not unfamiliar with rushing the football during his tenure in New York–having gained 204 rushing yards and leading the team in yards-per-rush since Saquon Barkley's season ending injury–the play did nearly double his previous career-long run, which was a 49-yard gain against Washington two-weeks ago.

While the Kansas City quarterback might have been trying to provide a bit of cover for Daniel Jones, he actually might be correct in claiming that he wouldn't have been able to complete the score either. Known for his ability to scramble out of the pocket, Mahomes' longest rushing play was actually only for 28-yards during the regular season in 2018–his first as the starter for Kansas City. Far above average for a play-caller, the former-MVP generally utilizes his legs to create time in the pocket, only to fire the ball to one of his receivers as the defense bends in an attempt to bring him down.

Despite not scoring on the RPO, the Giants and Daniel Jones were able to gain a touchdown four plays later, and currently hold a 21-16 lead against the Eagles late in the fourth quarter.
