Daniel Jones' time came far sooner than most anticipated. Now that it's here, though, the New York Giants' rookie signal-caller insists he's more than ready for it.

In wake of being named his team's starter ahead of franchise stalwart Eli Manning, Jones told reporters on Wednesday he “feels good” about where he stands ahead of the Giants' Week 2 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

“I think I certainly feel good about how far I’ve come and my progress since I got here in the spring,” he said, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. “We’ll try to make sure we have the best week we can. But yeah, I feel ready.”

New York officially announced the switch on Tuesday, in wake of another dispiriting performance by Manning. The two-time Super Bowl MVP went 26-of-45 for 250 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions in a 28-14 loss to the Buffalo Bills, pushing the Giants to an 0-2 record to start the season. He was better in the season-opener against the Dallas Cowboys, but still not good enough to help his team move the chains consistently.

Jones, meanwhile, went 3-of-4 for 17 yards in relief of Manning versus the Cowboys, and didn't play in Week 2. The Duke product was stellar throughout the preseason, completing 29-of-34 throws for 416 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions, displaying the blend of arm strength, pocket presence, and underrated athleticism that caused New York to take a chance on hip in the top-10 of the NFL Draft.

Manning, 38, is a free agent after this season.
