The NFL Draft started off with a series of surprises, with none bigger than the New York Giants. With the sixth pick, Big Blue selected Duke quarterback Daniel Jones. Giants fans, and almost everyone else, had their doubts about this one. But recent reports from Giants training camp suggest Jones is exceeding expectations:

This is great news for the Giants organization, as not many expected these reports about Jones this early on.

Although the former Blue Devil was expected by many to go late in the first round, the Giants picked him in front of quarterbacks like Dwayne Haskins and Drew Lock. This was puzzling to essentially everyone. New York wasn't necessarily expected to pick a signal-caller, especially with dynamic edge rushers like Josh Allen of Kentucky on the board. Other potential difference-makers included Ed Oliver of Houston, or even Rashan Gary from Michigan. Instead, the Giants opted for whom they see as their future signal-caller.

Unfortunately for Jones, he wasn't exactly drafted into a great situation. Although he isn't expected to start at all this year, it wouldn't be surprising to see him thrust into the lineup late in the season. New York fans are notoriously vicious and will likely show no mercy to Jones. Every incompletion, every failed drive will be scrutinized. This is a lot for any rookie quarterback, and even worse for one who's playing with one of the worst rosters in football.

But if these camp reports are any indication, when the time comes, Daniel Jones should be ready.
