New York Giants rookie quarterback Daniel Jones had a phenomenal debut as a starter on Sunday, leading the Giants back from an 18-point deficit and scoring the game-winning rushing touchdown in a 32-31 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Jones' tremendous first outing was also backed by tremendous advice from Eli Manning, and afterward, the first-year signal-caller was sure to point out what Manning had told him:
Manning congratulated Jones on the sideline after his first touchdown, and following the win, Manning embraced Jones on the field, a hardly surprising gesture from a classy guy like Manning.
Jones completed 23 of his 36 passes for 336 yards and a couple of touchdowns while also carrying the ball four times for 28 yards and a pair of scores. He did lose two fumbles, but that was the only blemish on what was an otherwise brilliant performance.
He channeled his inner Eli on the Giants' final drive of the game, leading Big Blue on an eight-play, 75-yard drive to steal a win. Of course, the way Jones capped off the possession was very un-Manning like, as he scampered seven yards into the end zone on a fourth-and-5 for the deciding score.
The Giants will now return home to battle the Washington Redskins next weekend.
