The New York Giants came up short once again to the Detroit Lions in Week 8. Regardless, they can take solace in the fact that Daniel Jones looked every bit the part of a future franchise quarterback.

Despite the loss, Jones earned some recognition for bis stellar performance that saw him throw for a career-high four touchdowns, via NFL Twitter:

The game got off to an abysmal start for New York before they were finally able to answer back with a 13-3 run in the second quarter. They did what they could to try and establish the run game behind running back Saquon Barkley, however, it was only a matter of time before they started to rely heavily on Jones' arm.

Fortunately, the rookie was able to oblige by completing 28-of-41 passes for 322 yards. With wide receiver Sterling Shepard sidelined with a concussion, wide receiver Golden Tate stepped up as Jones' most trusted option in the passing game and finished with eight receptions for 85 yards. Meanwhile, Barkley and tight end Evan Engram continued to serve as safety nets underneath by combining for 119 yards on 12 receptions.

Unfortunately, the performance ultimately was not enough to complete the comeback against Detroit. Although Barkley has since tried to take accountability for the loss, it is clear that the problems facing this team go far beyond their two latest first-round draft picks.

The Giants will be looking to snap a four-game losing streak in Week 9 versus the Dallas Cowboys.
