New York Giants general manager has made headlines for all the wrong reasons since his arrival prior to the 2018 NFL season. It appears the criticism of his decisions has not gone unnoticed.

Gettleman has caught plenty of flak for his personnel moves thus far.

According to NJ.com's Steve Politi, he does not think the criticism is fair:

“What I find interesting, there are people reporting and making judgments on what I do and how I do my job who don't know the game, who have never been involved with a team, and have just been on the outside looking in,” Gettleman said. “That's not your fault, by the way. It's just the way it is. But the problem is, to me, is when a reporter makes a judgment and doesn't have all the information. That's a thing I just shake my head at.”

The criticism began almost as soon as Gettleman entered the front office. Although it is no secret that New York is in need of some future stability under center, he passed up on a golden opportunity in the 2018 NFL Draft by selecting running back Saquon Barkley with the No. 2 overall pick. While there is no question that Barkley has exceeded the hype that was built around him, Gettleman's unwarranted confidence in quarterback Eli Manning has raised plenty of concerns.

The Giants made headlines once again by moving wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to the Cleveland Browns in a blockbuster trade. No matter how many picks they got in return, it is difficult to justify trading away an elite wideout in their prime. Gettleman will likely continue to take the brunt of the criticism in New York until the team starts to show some promise. It will be interesting to see what he ultimately decides to do with the Giants' two first-rounders in this year's draft.
