New Giants general manager Dave Gettleman and head coach Pat Shurmur have both indicated that Eli Manning will remain the team’s starting quarterback to start next season. However, there’s still a chance the Giants use the No. 2 overall pick to find Manning's potential successor.

Art Stapleton of NorthJersey.com reports that Manning would have no problem if the Giants do decide to go in that direction and maintains that he'd just continue focusing on his job.

“Hey, the Giants, it’s always, it’s about, they got to draft, you know, whether it’s the future or for now, they got to figure out how to put the best players on the field,” Manning said. “Hey, whatever they draft I’m fine with, it’s about me doing my job and that’s playing quarterback. … All I can worry about is doing my job. I got to go out there and compete and win games and so if I do that everything else will work itself out.”

Manning also says he would be willing to help mentor whichever young quarterback the Giants potentially take even as they essentially attempt to take away his job.

At 37 years of age, Manning likely doesn’t have too many years left, and the Giants would be wise to prepare themselves for a future without him as soon as possible. It can often be an awkward situation whenever a team decides to transition from an aging, long-time starting QB to a younger one.

Hopefully for the Giants, their eventual succession plan may not be as messy if Manning does approach the situation as professionally as he says.
