New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning is going to be the team's starter entering 2019, but he's not guaranteed much beyond that. Rookie Daniel Jones is going to be breathing down his neck, and Manning could be replaced at just about any time.

Giants owner John Mara, who has stood by Manning repeatedly, made that clear in recent comments to the media.

“I think we’re in a one year at a time mode right now,” Mara said, via Dan Benton of The Giants Wire. “It’ll be a very difficult, emotional moment [when it’s time to say goodbye], to be sure, but I’m not thinking about that just yet. He’s still the starting quarterback.”

Manning's life wasn't made any easier last week in the Giants' preseason opener when Jones looked really good. Still, the veteran isn't worrying about the future or the fact that he'll be going year-to-year with his contract.

“I think that’s what’s fair. I have never been one who is ever concerned or worried about contracts and things like that. I figure I won’t start now,” Manning said.

Expectations aren't too high for the Giants this year, but Manning isn't setting the bar low.

“It’s making the playoffs to start with, and then making a run in the playoffs. Obviously, the goal is to always win a championship, and you can’t do that without making the playoffs,” he explained. “I think the goal is to win the division and go from there.”

If Manning can manage to win the division, he might be the Giants' starter for longer than everyone currently expects.
