Eli Manning and the New York Giants are heading into Week 10 against the San Francisco 49ers with a 1-7 record and another high draft pick on the way. It has been a brutal season for the Giants, who many thought would be able to figure things out this season and get back on track. Now, the question becomes, what does the team do moving forward?
Many believe that the team should bench Manning for the rest of the season. Others think they should start him and then bring in a young quarterback in the 2019 NFL Draft.
No matter where your opinion ends up on the spectrum, there is a reality that Manning could lose his starting job with another poor performance or two.
According to a quote from Manning shared by NJ.com, he is not worried about potentially being benched this week against the 49ers and is simply focusing on doing his job.
“We worry about this week. We have the 49ers. I have a job to do. I'm going to do it to the best of my availability.”
While the quote may be short and sweet, it's apparent that Manning is not giving much time to his critics. He has put his struggles behind him and is focusing on trying to do better this week.
Throughout the eight games he has played in this season, Eli Manning has completed 68.3 percent of his pass attempts for 2,377 yards, eight touchdowns, and six interceptions. His overall numbers are not terrible, but the Giants simply have not been able to put the football in the end zone.
At 37 years old, Manning is in the final stage of his career. He doesn't have a ton of time left, but he does seem to want to spend it playing for the Giants.
Expect to see him remain the starter through Week 10 and it wouldn't be shocking to see Pat Shurmur stick with him for the remainder of the year. Stripping Manning's starting role away is a very aggressive move that won't be able to be made easily.
