New York Giants tight end Evan Engram was a limited participant in practice on Wednesday due to an ankle injury he suffered earlier this week. Engram finished out his team's 20-13 loss to the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2, so it is unclear when the injury occurred. The 0-2 Giants could use Engram in their Week 3 matchup with the Houston Texans, so they hope he's able to return soon.

Engram was selected with the No. 23 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. He recorded 64 receptions for 722 yards and six touchdowns last year, making for an impressive rookie campaign. Engram recorded the second-most receptions and receiving yards by a rookie tight end for the Giants since Jeremy Shockey recorded 74 receptions for 894 yards in 2002.

Despite his success, Engram had the second most drops among tight ends last season. The Giants led the entire NFL in drops. The absence of Odell Beckham Jr. was felt here. However, Engram is focusing on improving this year.

“It could have been way better,” Engram told reporters. “Definitely would love to have some drops back. I just don’t really get satisfied. If I did better last year, I’d would still tell you it could get better.”

Evan Engram recorded his lone touchdown catch of the season came on an 18-yard reception in garbage time of their last game. His team trailed 20-3 before the reception, but there were less than two minutes remaining in the game.

The Giants will need him to produce in earlier parts of the game to make him more effective. His minor ankle injury shouldn't keep him out of their next contest.
