The New York Giants were once again without starting tight end Evan Engram against the Philadelphia Eagles, the third straight game he’s missed with an MCL sprain. Engram admits it was tough to sit out as the Giants dropped yet another game.

However, Engram is on course to make his return against the Atlanta Falcons, and he’s hoping to be the spark their struggling offense needs.

“Thursday night was tough,” Engram said per Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News. “I’m just gonna try to come back and be a spark for the offense, for the team, definitely. So it should be good. I’m excited. Going back home, too.”

Engram, 24, has been limited to just 10 catches for 104 yards with a touchdown in the three games he's played this season. But he showed in his impressive rookie year last season, where he had 64 catches for 722 yards and six scores, that he is capable of being a significant contributor to their offense.

The Giants obviously have some deeper problems in other parts of the team that they have to fix following their disappointing 1-5 start. But Engram’s return is still a step in the right direction. His presence should provide Eli Manning with a nice safety valve to target for intermediate throws in the middle of the field.

With Saquon Barkley and Odell Beckham Jr. having to carry much of the load offensively for the Giants through the first six weeks, Manning should welcome having another receiving weapon back at his disposal.
