The New York Giants are desperate to put an end to their six-game losing streak versus the Chicago Bears in Week 12. Unfortunately, it appears they will once again be without tight end Evan Engram.

Engram has been sidelined since Week 10 with a foot injury. According to NFL Network Insider Adam Schefter, both him and tight end Rhett Ellison have been ruled out versus Chicago:

Giants TE Evan Engram and top back-up TE Rhett Ellison have both been ruled out for Sunday against the Bears.

New York was hoping that the extra week off with the bye would have provided Engram with enough time to recover and get back in the mix, however, the injury appears to be more severe than initially thought.

Engram's absence will leave a rather notable void in the passing game for quarterback Daniel Jones. When healthy, he is undoubtedly one of the best pass-catching tight ends in the NFL. The Giants may be opting to take a cautious approach to ensure he does not further aggravate the injury in a lost 2019 NFL season.

With Engram and Ellison out, backup tight end Scott Simonson is set to see an increase in snaps versus the Bears. Simonson does not boast the same type of receiving prowess and is more accustomed to taking on a role in the run game as a blocker.

As a result, Jones may be forced to allocate Engram's targets to his receiving corps and running backs out of the backfield against a defense with no shortage of talent.
