On Tuesday, the Dallas Cowboys will learn the fate of star running back Ezekiel Elliott's regarding whether his six-game suspension will be reduced, wiped entirely or upheld. Although Elliott's status will certainly impact Week 1's matchup with the New York Giants, head coach Ben McAdoo isn't changing New York's game plan.
McAdoo claims the Giants will simply be prepared to stop the run whether they'll be focused on Elliott coming out of the backfield or Darren McFadden, via ESPN's Jordan Raanan.
“Listen, our focus is on preparing for Dallas, and all backs run the same when there is nowhere to run,” Giants coach Ben McAdoo said. “So our goal is to do our job and be prepared to stop the run — and if he’s playing, great; if he’s not, then that’s great. We are going to play whoever suits up for them.”
At this point, there's no telling what the outcome of Elliott's appeal will be. Once the suspension was handed out by the league a few weeks ago, the consensus was that it would be upheld with little chance of a reduction. Now it appears there's some hope for Elliott and the Cowboys as the suspension could very well be reduced with owner Jerry Jones being adamant about lack of evidence.
Although the Cowboys have formidable backups in McFadden and Alfred Morris, Elliott is a game changer with the Ohio State product already making a case for best back in the NFL. If he's on the field this weekend, the Cowboys will be in a much better position to come out on top against their division rivals.
