With a new front-office regime soon to be ushered in, the New York Giants' roster is likely to be shaken up in a big way. Very few, if any, New York players are surefire keepers. The Giants' new head of football operations will have to make decisions regarding the future of the team's key players.

Daniel Jones was drafted to be the franchise quarterback but has been anything but that in his three years. Saquon Barkley showed franchise-star potential in his first two seasons but already looks like a shell of himself. It seems like they will be finding new homes shortly based on their lack of production.

Giants team co-owner/CEO John Mara said that this decision will be made by whoever he hires. Per Zack Rosenblatt of NJ.com:

Co-owner John Mara is going to let the next general manager and head coach decide Jones’ fate. Same goes for running back Saquon Barkley, who is entering the final year of his contract in 2022 — and also is a remnant of Gettleman’s era of blunders.

“In terms of Daniel or Saquon or anyone else you want to ask me, that’s going to be between the general manager and the head coach,” Mara said on Wednesday.

The Giants have missed the playoffs for five straight years now. The road to get back to playoffs is a long one. Mara will have to find a very good general manager for New York to be even slightly good again in the near future after years of embarrassment and ineptitude.

New York has begun putting together a list of targets for its general manager opening. The team's new head coach, and possibly new quarterback and running back, will follow.
