New York Giants wide receiver Golden Tate did not enjoy the 2019 NFL season debut he expected against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 5. He made it clear that he was hoping to take on a larger role in the offense.

Tate has since backtracked on his comments regarding his lack of involvement. He says his primary concern is helping this team win, via Dan Benton of the Giants Wire:

“Honestly, whatever it takes to win, that’s the goal here for everybody in this locker room. That’s what I want my part to be, just help us win, so if that means I run more plays, so be it,” Tate said. “Less plays, whatever, just win. Coming into this locker room after last week’s win was fun and today wasn’t as fun, we want to get back to winning.”

Golden Tate's comments regarding his role were hardly as abrasive as they were made out to be. Regardless, it is clear that he is doing what he can not ensure this focus is on the team and not him.

The good news is they will need Tate to become an integral part of the passing game if they hope to have a chance of winning. It is no secret that the Giants have been dealing with a depleted receiving corps throughout the 2019 NFL season. They signed the veteran in the offseason with the hope that he could serve as a stabilizing factor for this group.

Perhaps it was far-fetched for Tate to assume he was going to make an immediate impact fresh off a four-game suspension.

The onus will be on him to earn the trust of quarterback Daniel Jones over the next few weeks.
