Golden Tate has only been a member of the New York Giants for about three months, but he is already impressed by Eli Manning's veteran smarts and took time to praise the two-time Super Bowl MVP:
“His understanding of the game,” Tate said when asked about the first thing he noticed about Manning, according to Ryan Dunleavy of NJ Advance Media. “As a savvy receiver — specific to my situation, I play in the slot a lot — you want to have a guy who is really good at reading coverages so he doesn’t throw you into any headaches. Eli’s knowledge of the game is great.”
While Manning may not be the same quarterback he was years back, Tate still feels he brings a lot to the table:
“Talent-wise, I still think Eli is very productive,” Tate said. “I think he still has a very strong arm. He is a guy who has proven himself year-in and year-out. He shows up to work every day and finds a way. He has been doing it for a long, long time. There are not too many guys in the locker room older than me.”
Tate added that he and Manning are still learning from one another and that they are “trying to do something great.”
The 30-year-old signed with the Giants shortly after New York traded fellow wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to the Cleveland Browns, so Tate certainly has some big shoes to fill.
Fortunately for Tate, he has been around the game for quite some time, and given that he won a Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks back during the 2013-14 campaign, he knows a thing or two about expectations.
